BTC Applauds The Trump Administration For Recognizing The Massive Benefits From Norwegian Air International
WASHINGTON, DC – Business Travel Coalition and OpenSkies.travel today applauded the Trump administration for seeing early and clearly the massive economic benefits that flow to America and its workers from Norwegian Air International. Notably, White House press secretary Sean Spicer was yesterday very positive on the foreign air carrier permit granted to Norwegian’s subsidiary in December.
“There is a huge economic interest that America has in that deal right now... But just to be clear, I mean, when you’re talking about U.S. jobs, both in terms of the people who are serving those planes and the person who’s building those planes. That’s a very big difference,” stated the press secretary in reference to the manufacturing of Boeing aircraft and the crewing of those Norwegian Air International aircraft.
According to the Department of Commerce, every $1 billion in U.S. aerospace exports creates or supports 5,747 U.S. jobs, many throughout Boeing’s nationwide supply chain of small and medium-sized companies. Additionally, by bringing in thousands of tourists annually, U.S. job growth is turbocharged for the travel and tourism industry among airlines, airports, hotel companies, rental car companies, travel agencies and scores of other industries dependent on tourism.
Our country’s pro-competition, pro-consumer, pro-growth Open Skies policy is a Made-in-America success story, representing the Gold Standard for bilateral trade agreements. It provides consumers new and better competitive choices; drives a better balance-of-trade through foreign tourists’ dollars; and provides the marketplace discipline necessary to encourage efficient, innovative commercial air transportation services.
