December 20 - BTC Applauds United Airlines’ Policy Change Regarding Charge Cards

A new era of collaboration at hand

December 20, 2010, RADNOR, PA - Business Travel Coalition (BTC) today applauded the new management of United Airlines for withdrawing an ill-considered policy that was announced on June 15, 2009 to inhibit access of selected U.S. travel agencies to the United Airlines’ merchant account for sales of tickets on a credit card. Had this program continued and been expanded substantial financial risk would have been shifted to travel agencies and onto the backs of consumers.

“The recently installed senior management team at United is certainly delivering on its promise to treat with respect the needs of participants in the supply chain, including corporate travel departments. This bodes well for the airline’s prospects to be the trade’s and corporate travel manager’s carrier and partner of choice,” stated BTC Chairman Kevin Mitchell. “The travel industry owes the American Society of Travel Agents, that took the lead in elevating debate around this onerous policy decision in 2009, a debt of gratitude.”
