January 28 - BTC Supports Duane Woerth For Top FAA Position

Deep Aviation Experience and Tough Decisions Required

No other candidate nearly as qualified

January 28, 2009, RADNOR, PA--Business Travel Coalition (BTC) today called on U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to supportDuane Woerth’s candidacy to be the next Administrator of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) based on his aviation industry expertise, reasoned and analytical approach to problem-solving and unimpeachable personal integrity. The former Air Line Pilots Association President and Northwest Airlines 747 Captain and Board member has deep airline industry experience and extensive credentials in the field of international aviation. He is an accomplished consensus builder, but one who has never shied away from difficult decisions.

BTC Chairman Kevin Mitchell stated, “In terms of candidates for the top FAA job, there is no close second choice, in my view. I have known Duane Woerth professionally for 15 years and have the upmost respect for him. When it comes to the leadership and managerial capacity to fix a dysfunctional FAA culture where the airlines are considered the ‘customer,’ or where there have been woefully inadequate responses DOT Inspector General recommendations regarding lack of standards and FAA oversight of aircraft maintenance outsourcing, Duane Woerth provides the opportunity to bring true change to the agency.”
