With support from CIGNA Corporation and 16 other major corporations Mitchell founded the Business Travel Contractors Corporation (BTCC) in 1994 as a corporate buying group to advance fundamental reforms to the airline industry distribution system. The broad industry shift to net airfares and travel agency fee-based pricing during the 1990s in the U.S., Europe and around the world were initiatives BTCC introduced and advanced. In 1996, the Business Travel Coalition (BTC) was formed as a complimentary advocacy organization to represent the interests of the corporate managed travel community.

Consistently ranked as one of the top three performers in his division, Mitchell was promoted 9 times during his 12-year career with CIGNA for directing successful efforts, accomplishing management goals, resolving major problems and achieving targeted results. He managed 200 staff in multiple locations including:
• Corporate Travel
• Business Aviation
• Meetings and Incentives
• Corporate Event and Sport Marketing
• Division Communications
